Gujarat Jamnagar election result 2017 LIVE UPDATES from Jamnagar North, Jamnagar South, Kalavad (SC), Jamnagar Rural, Jamjodhpur constituencies in Jamnagar: The BJP supporters say, ‘Modi is to Gujarat what Vladimir Putin is to Russia today’ but the road to the Gujarat throne will not be an easy one for the saffron party this time. The Congress, after being able to secure no seats from the state in 2014 general elections, has remarkably revamped itself. While the contribution of new generation leaders like Hardik Patel, Alpesh Thakor, and Jignesh Mevani cannot be denied, the Congress President Rahul Gandhi’s aggressive political campaign has diverted the attention of the people to joblessness and disruption due to the GST and the demonetisation in the state. Coming to the Jamnagar constituency, it had a total of 193080 registered electorates in the 2012 assembly polls. Modi, on 5 December, when Cyclone Ockhi was expected to hit the state’s coast, held a public rally in Jamnagar. He attacked the Congress saying ‘the BJP governments at Centre and Gujarat are prepared to tackle the situation, unlike the Congress… which couldn’t properly handle natural calamities including the 2013 earthquake in Kedarnath.” The Jamnagar seat is totally urban and covers a major area of Jamnagar Municipal Corporation. The constituency had 181 polling stations and went to polls in the first phase on December 9. As per the Election Commission, the final voter turnout in the first phase of the Gujarat elections for 89 seats stood at 66.75 per cent which is well below 71.32 per cent voter turnout in 2012.
