However, the intense election campaign by the Congress President Rahul Gandhi has brought a twist in the tale. Underscoring the menace due to the GST and the demonetisation, Rahul has been able to make the elections a close contention. The Gujarat elections have become the most talked about topic of the year. To ensure smooth elections, the Election Commissioner instructed that every polling station should be equipped with Assured Minimum Facilities (AMF) like drinking water, shed, toilet, ramp for the physically challenged voters, a standard voting compartment etc. for the convenience and facilitation of voters. At least 182 women-managed polling stations will also be set up for the entire state of Gujarat for the first time. Coming to the Navsari district, as per the 2011 Census, the Navsari municipality had a population of 160,941. As per 2011 census, 64.8 per cent people live in urban areas while 35.2 per cent lives in the rural areas. As per the Election Commission, the final voter turnout in the first phase of the Gujarat elections for 89 seats stood at 66.75 per cent which is well below 71.32 per cent voter turnout in 2012. The big names in the first phase of the poll included Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani and Congress’s Shaktisinh Gohil and Paresh Dhanani.
