Gujarat Elections 2017 hovered around a range of issues ranging from ‘Vikas’ to dynasty politics and even to Pakistan. Parmar Rajendrasinh Balvantsinh (Lalabhai) of INC is leading right now. The election campaign stirred many controversies in the last two months. Even the announcement of election date by the Election Commission raised brows. However, to ensure smooth, the Election Commissioner had instructed that every polling station should be equipped with Assured Minimum Facilities (AMF) like drinking water, shed, toilet, ramp for the physically challenged voters, a standard voting compartment etc. for the convenience and facilitation of voters. At least 182 women-managed polling stations will also be set up for the entire state of Gujarat for the first time. Coming to the Panchmahal district, as per the 2011 Census, the Panchmahal municipality had a population of 2,390,776 of which male and female were 1,226,961 and 1,163,815 respectively. In 2006, the Ministry of Panchayati Raj named Panchmahal, one of the country’s 250 most backward districts. It is one of the six districts in Gujarat currently receiving funds from the Backward Regions Grant Fund Programme. The district went to polls in the second phase, on December 14. As per the Election Commission, Gujarat has 2,22,96,867 registered voters out of which 1,15,47,435 are male voters and 1,07,48,977 are female voters. In the 2nd phase of Gujarat Assembly Elections 2017, the Total Number of EVMs to be used is 28,114 and the Total Number of Polling Stations is 25,558.
