Speculations are myriad but a concrete answer to all of these questions can only be given after the poll results come out on December 18. The fierce electoral campaign by the two political parties – the Congress and the BJP, has made the Gujarat elections, a tpoic of national debate. Thereby, to ensure peaceful and people-friendly elections, the Election Commissioner has instructed that every polling station should be equipped with Assured Minimum Facilities (AMF) like drinking water, shed, toilet, ramp for the physically challenged voters, a standard voting compartment etc. for the convenience and facilitation of voters. At least 182 women-managed polling stations will also be set up for the entire state of Gujarat for the first time. Coming to the Bharuch district, as per the 2011 Census, the Bharuch municipality had a population of 168,729.The district had 244 polling stations and went to polls in the first phase on December 9. As per the Election Commission, the final voter turnout in the first phase of the Gujarat elections for 89 seats stood at 66.75 per cent which is well below 71.32 per cent voter turnout in 2012. The big names in the first phase of the poll included Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani and Congress’s Shaktisinh Gohil and Paresh Dhanani.
