PM to inaugurate Kalkaji-Botanical Garden Magenta Line on December 25
NEW DELHI: Delhiites would be able to travel in the first ‘driverless’ trains of Delhi Metro on the Magenta Line from December 25.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi would inaugurate the 12.64 kilometre long Kalkaji MandirBotanical Garden section of Phase p3’s Magenta Line. The section was inspected and approved by the Commissioner for Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) between November 13 and 15.
This section will be Delhi Metro’s first ever corridor to be operated using the Communication Based Train Control (CBTC) signalling technology which will facilitate movement of trains with a frequency of 90 to 100 seconds.
While the trains can be operated on automated mode without the requirement of a driver, for the time being, drivers will be present in the trains.
With the opening of this section, residents of Noida will get an additional and more direct connectivity to south Delhi. At present, for travelling to south Delhi areas, they have to change trains at Mandi House (from Blue Line to Violet Line). However, with this new section, they will be able to travel directly to Kalkaji Mandir and save on travelling time. Botanical Garden has been developed as NCR’s first ever interchange station.
The Botanical Garden – Kalkaji Mandir section has nine stations - Kalkaji Mandir, Okhla NSIC, Sukhdev Vihar, Jamia Milia Islamia, Jasola Vihar, Shaheen Bagh, Kalindi Kunj, Okhla Bird Sanctuary and Botanical Garden. While Kalkaji Mandir is underground, all other stations are elevated.
