PUNE: A new road has been proposed from Nanded Phata till Khadakwasla dam to deal with daily traffic snarls on the existing thoroughfare.
The road has been proposed along the closed pipeline and Mutha canal up to the dam. The proposal is expected to come up for discussion before the PMC general body in a few days.

Vikas Dangat, ex-corporator from the Sinhagad Road area who tabled the proposal, said, “The existing road up to Khadakwasla has proved insufficient to deal with the ever-increasing vehicular traffic, resulting in daily traffic jams and accidents here.”
He said the existing road has sharp turns and passes via congested areas.
“This road cannot be widened due to the presence of defence establishments,” Dangat said, adding, “Instead, a new road can be developed with a 14-metre width. It can be developed under the provision of the MRTP Act along the pipeline which will be a straight road without much turns. It is possible to develop the road because the land along the pipeline belongs to the civic administration.”

Sources in the administration said the proposal cannot be ruled out, but will require a detailed study pertaining to the land along the proposed road and existing reservation in the development plan. “The civic administration will have to discuss the proposal with the district authorities as a portion of the proposed road will pass through the limits of the villages,” they said.
Regular commuters said there was an urgent need for an additional road or expansion of the existing one to streamline traffic flow.
