700 year old banyan tree trunk uprooted in Mahabubnagar

the Banyan tree has been affected by fungal infestation since many years due to human interference which has totally affected the roots.

Hyderabad: One of the trunks of the legendary 700-year-old Pillalamarri banyan tree snapped and got uprooted from the ground on Sunday in Mahabubnagar. Reportedly, the Banyan tree has been affected by fungal infestation since many years due to human interference which has totally affected the roots and branches of the entire tree.

The base of the trunk of one of the trees snapped, cracked and came down, bringing all its branches to the ground. The fallen part of the tree accounts for almost 10 per cent of whatever remains of the legendary tree.

D Ronald Rose, District Collector Mahabubnagar has visited the spot and instructed the officials to not to allow general public for next three months. The collector has also instructed to put all efforts to rejuvenate. The Tourism Department is trying to build a fence in the entire area and is planning to build pillars to support the branches which may fall.
