Rs 4.6 lakh looted from Jamui bank
PATNA: Unidentified armed criminals looted around Rs 4.6 lakh from Bihar Grameen Bank branch at Soron under the Chakai police station area in the Maoist-hit Jamui district, around 150km from Patna, on Tuesday.
Police sources said the incident took place at around 10.15am when only two-three customers and five employees were inside the bank.
Chakai police station SHO Rohit Kumar Gupta told TOI on the phone that four armed criminals took everyone in the bank hostage at gunpoint and locked them in a room.
“After overpowering them, the criminals ordered one of the bank employees to open the iron chest and looted Rs 4 lakh kept there. They also snatched Rs 59,000 from a customer who had reached the bank to deposit the amount,” he said.
“Eyewitnesses said the four criminals fled on two bikes,” the SHO said.
Quoting the bank officials and customers, the SHO said the criminals had covered their face with clothes.
Altogether six cases of bank dacoity and two bank robbery had already been reported from different parts of the state between January and October this year.
