Cops foil robbery plan, arrest four from Kalkaji
NEW DELHI: Four people were arrested just before they were about to execute an armed robbery at the house of an elderly couple in southeast Delhi’s Kalkaji. The men were being trailed by cops for four days after they received information about their plan.
DCP (southeast) Chinmoy Biswal said the men—Ram Kumar (31), Rohit (19), Deepak Kumar (24) and Rahul (19) were arrested on Monday afternoon.

Police were tipped off that the accused would be assembling at a park near DDA flats in Kalkaji, from where they would be moving towards the house.
During interrogation, it was found that the main accused Ram Kumar was behind the plan. He was earlier working as a house painter in the area and had whitewashed the couple’s house in 2016.
Kumar, the main accused, left his house painting job in 2016 after he was told of better prospects in Dubai. He reportedly paid Rs 1 lakh to an agent, who facilitated all the paper work and job as a labourer at a private company there. However, after arriving there, neither did he get the job nor the money which he was hoping for. He returned to India in July 2017, following which he was constantly being asked to repay the loan.

Kumar met Rohit, who was a local criminal from Navjeevan Camp near Govindpuri and hatched a plan to target the couple who lived alone. Kumar had white-washed their house in 2016, and was aware of the places where the couple kept their cash, jewellery and other valuables.
Rohit also roped in two of his associates Deepak and Rahul. All four decided to procure a country-made pistol and some cartridge along with knives. They reportedly made an attempt to break into the house but averted it mid-way.
By that time, local informers told cops about their plan. Police trailed the men in plain clothes to confirm their intentions and later arrested them on Monday.
