Hyderabad: Hyderabad’s batting and bowling units dished out top class performances as M. Samhith Reddy hammered a brilliant double century while Ajay Dev Goud scored a composed ton to put the home side in command position against Jammu and Kashmir in their Under-19 Cooch Behar Trophy Group ‘D’ match here at the Gymkhana Grounds on Wednesday.
After bowling out J&K for 352 in their first innings, Hyderabad’s batting unit came firing at the opposition. Opener Ajay scored 102 from 192 balls laced with 16 fours and a six while skipper Pragnay Reddy and A. Varun Goud chipped in with 76 and 64 respectively.
However, the star of the show was Samhith who stood firm on one end and kept the visitors’ bowler troubling from his fine class on the pitch. In his unbeaten 272-ball stint, Samhith scored 210 with the help of 30 boundaries as Hyderabad took a 267 runs lead in the first innings before declaring on 619 for 7 from 144 overs.
J&K batters began their second essay well before going from 55-0 to 55-2 within the span of six deliveries. After two more balls G. Aniketh Reddy struck for the second time to corner the visitors who were 60 for 3, still trailing by 207 runs, when the stumps were drawn. Earlier in the first innings, Hyderabad’s E. Sanketh picked five wickets while Aniketh and Ajay claimed three and two wickets respectively to wrap up J&K’s innings.
