With the new government in place, the much-awaited bus stand here may see the light of day soon.
The bus stand was proposed during the BJP regime by the then Chief Minister, Prem Kumar Dhumal, but the project could not be started. Later, with the change of guard in the state, it took a backseat.
Over 700 pine trees were axed for the construction of the bus stand. A tender under the Build Operate and Transfer (BOT) scheme was floated, but the construction company did not initiate the construction of the bus stand.
GS Bali, former Transport Minister, also announced the construction of the bus stand, but nothing concrete was done in this direction.
According to a rough estimate, over 500 buses transmit from the old bus stand that was built over 40 years ago during the first tenure of Shanta Kumar as the Chief Minister and Thakur Jagdev Chand as Transport Minister.
Over 25,000 people from around the villages commute from here daily.
Kamal Kumar, a driver of a local bus, said, “The bus stand gets congested every morning and evening causing inconvenience to people.”
