MP farmer scribbles debts on wall, commits suicide
BHOPAL: Two days after a farmer ended life in Tikamgarh on December 29 another farmer committed suicide in the drought hit region of Bundelkhad. Before hanging himself in a room on December 31 in Baldevgarh village, he scribbled details of the debt on a wall. They include names and the amount taken from them.
The marginal farmer known as Hazari, a tribal(29), was also bothered about 2.5 hectares of his father’s land which was mortgaged to a moneylender after his father took Rs 50,000 loan for his medical expenses.

"He was extremely concerned for the land and wanted to repay the debt", Ramkunwer his wife said.
His family members said that Hazari had sown the land thrice during the last three years but nothing was produced as there was no water.
For the past many months he wanted to work as a labourer to earn some money to get the land freed from the money lender, Ramkunwer said, but he was not able to get work.
"As he was the elder of the two siblings, he was looking after the six member family. Despite joblessness, he was not able to migrate because of ailing father", Janki, his mother said.
Sources said that his MNREGA job card did not have any entry showing that he was jobless.
On December 31 when his body was being recovered, his family spotted the scribblings on a wall. They found six names written on the white wall and small amounts from Rs 100 to Rs 1000 mentioned against them.

"In all he mentioned that Rs 3200 was taken from his six friends", Janki , his mother said.
SHO of Baldeogarh police station said that investigations were on to ascertain the "cause of the suicide". He said that "the debt" angle will also be probed.
On December 29, Dhaniram Kushwah, a farmer ended his life also because of alleged joblessness and successive crop failures.
Police said he hanged himself at his home in Bargola village in the early hours of December 29.
Kushwah’s family had been facing a dire financial situation following successive droughts in Tikamgarh. Due to poor rains this year, the kharif crop had failed. Kushwah’s father Mithoolal said that fields had dried up in the present rabi season as there was no water.
Since there was no work on the farm, Kushwah was under tremendous stress, his father explained. Consequently, he ended his life.
According to villagers, Kushwah was trying to seek employment through MNREGA (Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act) scheme, but in vain.
Police said that further investigations are on to ascertain the reasons behind Kushwah’s death.
