Silk sarees from different States under one roof

A wide range of silk sarees and clothes, with intricate designs unique to different regions, are available under one roof in the City now, and weavers from different States are directly selling authentic silk products.

When 'Silk India', a seven-day exhibition organised by Hastashipli association, opened at Gujarat Bhavan at Deshpande Nagar in the City on Tuesday, a colourful world of silk clothes with eye-catching designs threw open its doors for the residents of the City.

From Kashmiri shawl to Kanjeevaram sarees, and from Lucknow's chikan work sarees to Mysuru silk sarees, most of the noted silk apparel in the country are available in the exhibition.

Majority of the participants have brought wedding collection, while they are offering discounts also. Crepe, georgette, chiffon, tassar, dharmavaram, tassar, banaras, and other varieties of silk sarees are attracting the visitors.

Hand-woven stole made of Pashmina (Kashmiri wool), and gold and silver coated wedding saree priced at Rs two lakh are among the major attractions. Minakari, cut work, Jamdani, Paitani, and other types of designs have made sarees more special.

In addition, Ilkal sarees, dress material, bed-sheets, foldable bed, and other material are also available.

"Weavers and weavers' societies are selling authentic pure silk and hand-woven products directly to the customers here. Around 60 stalls have been put up here, and the collection is expected to be attractive for customers, in the background of forthcoming wedding season," said Hastashilpi event co-ordinator Manju Gowda.

The exhibition is open from 10:30 am to 8:30 pm, till January 7. Entry is free.

On Tuesday, Zilla Panchayat President Chaitra Shirur, North-Western Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (NWKRTC) Chairman Sadanand Danganavar, and Congress Party leader Devaki Yoganand were the guests at the inauguration of the exhibition.
