BASTI: The district magistrate of
Basti district in
Uttar Pradesh has started campaigning against
tobacco consumption.
DM Arvind Kumar Singh has imposed an order that if anybody found consuming tobacco, khaini, pan masala or smoking cigarettes in government offices, he/she will be charged of Rs 200 fine and their photographs will also be published in the newspaper.
On Wednesday, a tobacco control workshop headed by DM
Arvind Kumar Singh was organised in the district.
Officials from education, health and many other departments were present during the seminar.
DM said that action will be taken against shops selling tobacco products within 200 metres of schools, hospitals and other public places.
He added that there is a need to stop tobacco consumption in government offices with immediate effect.
