MALAPPURAM: Police have recovered more than four hundred bullets used in self-loading rifles (SLR) which were lying abandoned in Bharathappuzh near Kuttippuram bridge in Kerala's Malappuram district on Thursday afternoon.
Six days ago, police had recovered five M18A1 directional anti-personnel claymore mines, from under the same bridge, raising suspicions of sabotage and the investigation regarding this is still under way.

Following the recovery of bullets from the same region, a team of police visited Kuttippuram and it has started a detailed examination of the recovered items. According to DSP of Tirur, the cartridges were recovered from river water during a search conducted by the police team as part of the investigation regarding the recent recovery of land mines. "In the preliminary examinations, we have learnt that the cartridges are
SLR bullets being used by the Indian army," he said.
Meanwhile, the investigation regarding the recovery of claymore mines is moving at a snail’s pace. The recovered mines with the effective firing range of 50 metres had been shifted to police camp at Malappuram. As the National Security Guards (NSG) confirmed that the mines are ‘live’ and issued by Indian Army, the police have already sought assistance of technical teams from the Army for unravelling the mystery behind the explosives. But the Army team is yet to arrive in Malappuram.
Meanwhile, a team of investigation officers reached Mumbai on Wednesday to collect details regarding the land mines supplied through Army units in Maharashtra.
