People of Karimnagar district might soon get connected with State Capital through two different railway lines.

The long-standing demand for railway connectivity with Hyderabad will get fulfilled as the first railway route is being laid between Kothapalli (Karimnagar) to Manoharabad and to Secunderabad, which was proposed by Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao when he was Karimnagar MP in 2014. This railway line had begun taking shape in August 2016 when Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid foundation stone.

The Kothapalli to Manoharabad railway line covering 150 k.m. was being taken up at a cost of ₹1,100 crore. The railway line would pass through Gajwel (KCR’s constituency), Siddipet (Minister T. Harish Rao constituency) and Sircilla (Minister K. Taraka Rama Rao’s constituency) and touch the pilgrim centres of Komaravelli in Siddipet district and Sri Raja Rajeshwaraswamy Devasthanam in Vemulawada.

The laying of railway line from Manoharabad to Gajwel was almost complete. The land acquisition in Siddipet, Sircilla, Vemulawada and Kothapalli would be completed by this month-end. Plans are afoot to complete the railway line project at the earliest and encourage tourism at the pilgrim centres. Now Karimnagar MP B. Vinod Kumar has mooted another railway line from the existing Karimnagar railway station to Hasanparthi (near Kazipet), which was pending since 1976. The laying of railway line from Karimnagar to Hasanparthi covering a distance of 45 k.m. would ensure connectivity from Karimnagar to Hyderabad with greater ease. The South Central Railway (SCR) authorities had submitted a proposal in this regard by proposing railway stations at Annaram, Tadikal, Erukalagudem, Huzurabad and Dandepalli between Karimnagar and Hasanparthi to the Railway Board last month.

Talking to The Hindu here on Thursday, Karimnagar MP B. Vinod Kumar said that he would take all measures for the completion of both the railway lines from Karimnagar to Hasanparthi and Kothapalli to Manoharabad at the earliest. The completion of the new railway lines would give a fillip to the tourism and economic activities in Karimnagar district, he observed.

With regard to the existing line from Peddapalli to Nizamabad via Karimnagar, the MP said that the railway authorities had sanctioned ₹60 crore for taking up electrification works on the Peddapalli to Jagtial via Karimnagar. The electrification of railway line from Jagtial to Nizamabad would be taken up next year.
