No wonder Nicola Sturgeon is tempted by a second EU referendum vote and no wonder Nigel Farage is worried that the Brexit vote will be reversed.

The truth is beginning to dawn on Nigel, although he knew it all along. Brexit is going to be bad for Britain and he is scared that without his own bluster, people will stop believing the lies they were told about how good it was all going to be.

Nigel Farage is worried the Brexit vote will be reversed

Sturgeon cannot be accused of playing a canny game on Brexit so far but she does talk sense on the economics of Brexit.

She has stuck to the principle that we should stay in the single market and that Scotland would benefit from more immigration.

It doesn’t take an economics expert to work that out – though it does seem to be more than Jeremy Corbyn can manage. His dogmatic opposition to the EU, the fear that state aid rules of the single market would prevent him propping up ailing UK industries, is at the root of his reluctance to endorse a Remain campaign.

Brexit can be stopped but it will take the combined forces of Corbyn and Sturgeon to do it.

So far in negotiations, the EU have asked the UK to agree to £50billion divorce costs and assurances for EU citizens and the EU Supreme Court. They got it. They wanted an undertaking that there would be no hard border in Ireland. They got it.

A pattern is emerging of the EU making reasonable demands and the UK negotiators, after some gnashing of teeth, caving in.

This is what will happen in trade talks too. It is what happened when the UK first joined in the 1970s and it will happen again.

Even the softest Brexit possible will damage the UK economy.

Now is the time for Corbyn to put clear blue sky between Labour’s Brexit stance and the disastrous Tory position.

MPs would be mad to back a deal that left the country worse off, and voters may be ready to change their minds.

Respect refugees

As a recipe for exploitation and resentment, it is hard to beat.

The shameful work practices of American giant GEO, who run Dungavel immigration removal centre, of making asylum seekers work for a pittance has to stop.

No excuses, no prevarication, no to modern slavery. As much pressure as possible should be put on the Home Office and this prison company to treat people with some dignity and respect.

That means legal wages for the work they do.

26-mile runs

Hats off to young Shauney Watson.

Shauney Watson completed the world's highest marathon despite the stomach bug

She ran the gruelling 26.2-mile marathon, 17,000 feet up on on Mount Everest last November despite suffering from a horrendous stomach bug.

The runner with the runs came through and raised £2000 for a veterans’ charity.
