NEW DELHI: A
23-year-old man was
killed and
four others were
critically injured after a
Mahindra Scorpio they were travelling in
overturned near
Shahdara flyover on Friday night. Police said all of them lived in Ghaziabad and were returning home after visiting Red Fort. The injured were admitted to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital.
DCP (Shahdara) Nupur Prasad said the incident happened at the beginning of the flyover when the SUV driver lost control of the vehicle and hit the central verge.
The SUV toppled a few times before coming to a standstill.
Police said the deceased, Anil Kumar, was driving the vehicle. His friends, Dharmendra Singh, Taslim, Mirza Gulzar and Dharamender are battling for life.
Investigations suggest that the SUV had some mechanical problem due to which the driver lost control and could not slow down before hitting the divider.
Kumar’s body was sent for autopsy and would be handed over to the family members on Saturday.
A case has been registered. Police are waiting for the people who got injured to be fit for giving statement in order to establish the sequence of events that led to the accident.
