Christian Eriksen has not been included in Tottenham’s matchday squad to face Southampton this afternoon.

The Denmark international has been in fine form for Mauricio Pochettino’s side and was expected to start against the Saints, where Spurs can leapfrog Liverpool into fourth with a win.

However, Eriksen has been ruled out through illness in what is a huge blow to Spurs.

The Dane caught a bug that has been spreading through Spurs’ training ground this week and goalkeeper Hugo Lloris also misses out with illness.

‘They are ill, yes, they stay at home in London to try to recover as soon as possible,’ said Pochettino.

Moussa Sissoko replaces Eriksen in midfield and Michel Vorm starts in goal.

Harry Kane has also been feeling under the weather but was deemed fit enough to start.
