City news site signs deal to cover world famous football tournament

A city news website has signed a three-year deal to serve as media partner for what it says is “the world’s best known youth football competition.”

Belfast Live has announced the new media partnership with SuperCupNI, which has been run annually in Northern Ireland since 1983.

Teams from across the world take part in the tournament – with players including Paul Scholes and Wayne Rooney having competed in it in previous years.

Belfast Live will provide coverage of the tournament along with Trinity Mirror sister newspaper the Daily Mirror.

Belfast Live editor Chris Sherrard said: “We are delighted to be on board with SuperCupNI over the next three years. It is one of the main events on the Northern Ireland calendar, something we all grew up with.

“To be involved with SuperCupNI is very exciting. Belfast Live launched in 2015 and since then I have always wanted to be involved with this tournament. It’s an event our readers love.

“When the opportunity arose to work with the SuperCupNI organisers, we jumped at it.”

SuperCupNI chairman Victor Leonard added: “We are very excited to be linking up with the Daily Mirror and Belfast Live. It is something new for the tournament.

“We have been evolving over the years and this is another natural step for the tournament. Belfast Live is hugely popular and this is a partnership that will raise the profile of the SuperCupNI in Belfast and across the province. So we are naturally delighted.”
