At least 13 people were killed and three injured after a mini-bus ferrying 17 passengers fell into Panchganga river in Kolhapur in Maharashtra on Friday, reported news agency PTI. According to the police, the accident occurred close to midnight on Shivaji bridge after the driver lost control over the vehicle. The police has traced only 16 passengers.
The passengers, hailing from Balewadi in Pune, were travelling back from Ganpatipule, a picnic destination of coastal Konkan, when the accident took place. Among the deceased are three men, three women and seven children, including a nine-month baby.
Search and rescue operations by teams of police, civic authorities and locals are underway after onlookers alerted the authorities, reported PTI. Senior police officials are reportedly at the site of the accident.
