The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has been entrusted with the job of preparing the detailed project reports (DPR) for the Metro Rail Phase II expansion plan, for about 60 kilometres, including providing link to the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport at Shamshabad.
The elevated line will most likely be about 30 km from Raidurg to Shamshabad. The second line will connect Lakdikapul with BHEL (Ramachandrapuram), covering 21 km, and the third line will be connecting terminal stations of Phase I – Nagole to L.B. Nagar or about a five-km stretch.
DMRC experts have arrived in Hyderabad, inspected the routes and have had brainstorming sessions with the Hyderabad Metro Rail officials here on Sunday, according to HMR managing director N.V.S. Reddy. Discussions had mainly centred around the potential alternative corridors based on the maximum travel demand, integration and closing of ‘gaps’ in Phase I of the project, taken up on three corridors.
Preliminary planning by top government officials showed that about 70 acres of land is required for metro rail depot near Ramachandrapuram or near Miyapur for the route being considered between Lakdikapul and BHEL. Land parcels of one to four acres is required for parking and circulation on the corridor, with likely stations at BHEL, Chandanagar, Madinaguda, Mythrinagar, Hafeezpet, Adityanagar, Silpa Park Colony, Kondapur, Botanical Gardens.
Land parcels are also required for stations at Gachibowli junction, Cyberabad Police Commissioner office, Biodiversity Park, Khajaguda junction, H.S. Darga, Shaikpet, Brindavan Colony, Salarjung Colony, Rethi Bowli junction, Mehdipatnam, NMDC, Masab Tank and Lakdikapul.
About 60 acres is required for metro depot for corridor connecting to airport either at Budvel or Shamshabad. Up to six acres for stations likely at Raidurg, Gachibowli, T.S. Police Academy, Rajendranagar, Shamshabad and RGIA. For building the metro line from Nagole to L.B. Nagar, about two acres of land is required at Nagole, Bandlaguda, Kamineni Hospital and L.B. Nagar.
DMRC has been asked to study traffic and transportation surveys, ridership enhancement, integration with existing MMTS and bus systems, feeder bus services, pedestrian facilities, land requirement, route alignments,environmental impact and social impact assessments, geo-technical investigation, technology, project cost and implementation, fares etc.
