Police said they are questioning Tushar Kumar's classmates and students who found him in the washroom

New Delhi: A Class 9 student who was found unconscious in the washroom of a school in northeast Delhi's Karawal Nagar died after he was taken to a government hospital on Thursday, police said.

The parents of 16-year-old Tushar Kumar alleged that he was beaten up by some students and left to die in the washroom. The latest incident is a reminder of the murder of Pradyuman Thakur, a Class 2 student of Ryan International School in Gurgaon, who was killed in the school toilet in September last year allegedly by a senior student in an attempt to force the school to postpone exams and a parent-teacher meeting.

Police said there were no injury marks on Tushar's body. The cause of death will be known after the post-mortem report comes, police said.

A police complaint has been filed against unknown people and the police are questioning the boy's classmates and the students who found Tushar unconscious in the washroom.

After the school authorities said Tushar was suffering from stomach ache and declined to give further details, the parents alleged they were trying to shield the students who killed their 16-year-old son.

Tushar lived in Karawal Nagar, the same area where the school is located. The boy's family members and some locals came out on the streets and demanded a thorough investigation into his death.

Local legislator Kapil Mishra said he is in touch with the police and the authorities at northeast Delhi's GTB Hospital, where Tushar died.
