Martyn Woods has been sentenced to 14 years in prison after pleading guilty to 12 counts of sexually assaulting a child.

Man taken to hospital with serious head injuries following fight

A man has been taken to hospital with serious head injuries following a fight in Wythenshawe

Police discovered two men fighting on Nearbrook Road, a small residential street, in the early hours of this morning.

A 37-year-old man was taken to hospital with serious head injuries.

Police put up a cordon around Broadoak Road, which they say is likely to be lifted later today.

A 22-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assault and remains in custody for questioning.

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101, quoting reference number 006 of February 5, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.

A restaurant 'banned' pugs from its photo competition

Pug, rabbit and rat lovers have left angry reviews on a restaurant’s website after the animals were shunned from a pet photography competition.

Manchester burger restaurant Solita regularly runs photograph competitions on its social media pages and on Sunday asked followers to send pictures of their pets.

With a free lunch for two up for grabs, it didn’t take long for the posts to do the rounds.

But some pet owners were left furious after Solita bosses they would not accept pictures of pugs, rabbits or rats.

Wanted man appeal

Police are searching for a wanted man from Sale

Harry Hosker, 22, previously of Beenham Close, is wanted on recall to prison.

He was released from prison in April 2017 after serving a two year sentence for burglary and theft, but has since breached his license conditions.

Police working to trace Hosker believe he knows he is wanted and is actively evading arrest.

He has links to Old Trafford, Stretford, Partington and Northenden.

Anyone with information about Hosker’s whereabouts should contact police on 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.

Banyan Bar and Kitchen to open second site

Owners of Manchester’s Banyan Bar and Kitchen are to open a second branch in the city centre

The £1.6m new restaurant and bar will launch in Spinningfields this summer following the success of the Corn Exchange site, which opened in 2015.

The new 7,000 sq ft site will accommodate 230 covers with a ‘sophisticated all-new look’ that owners Arc Inspirations say will ‘elevate and reform’ the brand.

Banyan’s all-day dining offer includes breakfast and brunch classics, steaks, burgers, sandwiches and salads, while the bar menu is strong on cocktails and gin.

The new Spinningfields site will be the eighth across the north of England. Arc Inspirations is also bringing another of its brands, New York-inspired bar and restaurant Manahatta, to Manchester this summer, inside Royal London House on Deansgate.

Car park remains cordoned off after shooting

Police remain on the scene after a man was seriously injured in a shooting near Albert’s restaurant in Salford

Armed police were called to a car park on the East Lancs Road in Swinton at around 9pm on Sunday.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said a man suffered serious gun shot wounds to the leg and was taken to hospital by paramedics.

There were reports on social media that customers had to be escorted out of the restaurant through the back entrance.

Train disruption between Sheffield and Manchester Piccadilly

Trains between Sheffield and Manchester Piccadilly, via Marple, are disrupted due to signalling issues

National Rail have said the issued could cause trains to be delayed, cancelled or diverted.

A signalling issue between Marple and Romiley is affecting all lines.

The problems are expected to continue until 11.30am.

Gritting in preparation for snow

Preparations are already being made for the snow

A yellow weather warning is in place from 8pm tonight until 3pm on Tuesday morning, but weather experts said the snow is most likely to fall in Manchester during morning rush hour.

Between 1-3cm of snow is possible, while in areas over 200m there could be up to 5cm of snow.

Simon Partridge, forecaster for the Met Office, said: “Today in the North West it will be a cold and bright day, it won’t be bad at all. Overnight though we start to see a change and there will be some sleet and snow.

“It is arriving and moving across from 5am to 6am in the morning. It will be around Manchester during morning rush hour and the morning school run.

“The warning is valid from 8pm tonight until 3am tomorrow morning. There is between 1cm to 3cm snow expected, above 200m up to 5cm of snow.”

A cold snap is on its way to Greater Manchester, with snow and sleet expected to cause disruption during Tuesday rush hour

Forecasters at the Met Office have issued weather alerts warning of snow and ice for the region.

Temperatures are expected to plummet to as low as -3C and could get to as low as -6C in more rural areas.

Severe delays on M56 following collision

There are long delays on the M56 following a collision involving a van and car

One lane is closed Westbound at J12 Runcorn, with congestion building up to J9 Lymm Interchange.

There are delays of an hour and 25 minutes at the moment.

Man suffers serious injuries in shooting

A man has been shot near Albert’s restaurant in Salford

M62 delays due to broken down crane

There are currently long delays on the M62 after a crane broke down and spilled oil on the carriageway.

Two lanes are closed Westbound between junction 19 for Heywood and junction 18 for Simister Island, with tailbacks up to junction 22 for Rishworth Moor.

Highways England are currently reporting delays of up to an hour and 15 minutes.

The lanes were closed to allow for a tyre to be changed on the mobile crane.

It has also shed some hydraulic oil onto the carriageway which is being cleared up.

Gary Neville has been bumped from a British Airways flight

The United star is having a proper pop at the airline on Twitter this morning...

Gary Neville has blasted British Airways after the airline allegedly overbooked a flight he was due to travel on.

The former Manchester United star appeared to have booked seats on a BA flight travelling from Manchester Airport to London Heathrow.

But according to the property developer’s tweets the airline overbooked the flight and would not let him on.
