Kasganj: Gate of place of worship set on fire
AGRA: In a fresh incident of torching in the restive Kasganj in UP, unidentified miscreants set ablaze the entrance gate of a place of worship in Awazi mohalla area under Ganjdundwara police jurisdiction on Monday.

Police responded swiftly and put the fire out and helped local residents replace the burnt wooden gate.
Meanwhile, two police constables of a patrolling team have been suspended in this connection.

After the incident, security in the locality has been beefed up with the deployment of a company of Rapid Action Force (RAF) and 10 companies of Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC). No untoward incident was reported thereafter.
Kasganj superintendent of police Piyush Srivastava said, “We received information about the fire around 4am. Soon, police personnel from the local station and a reserve battalion were rushed to the spot. Nobody was injured in the incident, but the entrance gate of the place of worship was damaged. It is being repaired.”

The SP further said, “We have suspended two constables, Harisharan Gautam and Nagendra Kumar, who failed to prevent the arson. We will not tolerate such incidents. A manhunt has been launched to nab the accused.”
An FIR has been registered against unidentified miscreants at Ganjdundwara police station.

The torching incident took place after six days of relative peace in the district. Police have arrested more than 125 people, so far, in connection with the communal violence, and the case is being probed by a special investigation team (SIT) constituted by the state government.
