Knitted Wit celebrates Galentine's Day; Rose City Yarn Crawl news

There's nothing quite as snuggly as a pair of handknitted socks. These beauties are made with Opal. (Mary Mooney/Staff)

Local business Grace's Cases, maker of needle cases, bags and more,  is now selling fabric on Etsy! "Quite a few of the fabrics in this shop are rescues from quilters who switched to knitting or who are deceased," Graces writes. "This means we have some hard-to-find and out of print fabrics, as well as new ones that we didn't completely use up." This is deeply cool even if you are not a sewer yourself -- because it means you can use these beauties to get a custom order from Grace's Cases. There are some incredibly cute animal fabrics -- check out the Paw Prints of Egypt one -- and Grace promises more are on the way.

Twisted has some fab trunk shows in February. Check out Quince & Co. Linen Noir through Sunday, Feb. 11, and Brooklyn Tweed Ganseys from Monday, Feb. 12, through Sunday, Feb. 25. Twisted is at 2310 N.E. Broadway in Portland.

Knitted Wit is having a Galentine's Day Open Studio from 1-4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10. "We'll have craft supplies to make galentines to make for all your gal pals!" Knitted Wit's studio is at 19959 E. Burnside St. in Portland.

Special note for spinners and felters: Bide a Wee Farm Jacob and Navajo-Churro sheep and Whistlestop Farm Shetland sheep are having their 6th annual Super Winter Wool Sale and Spin-in 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10. The Rose City Yarn Crawl's participating stores are beginning to post the events they have planned during the Crawl. They include: Irish Tea & Treats at Dublin Bay Knitting Company, an Imperial Stock Ranch trunk show at Close Knit, and a Reflective Society trunk show at Fiber Rhythm Craft & Design. The Rose City Yarn Crawl is Thursday, March 1, through Sunday, March 4.

And speaking of the the Crawl, here's a terrific story on ways to support your local yarn store without spending a dime. Definitely worth a read. Remember, buy local -- or bye, local!

The Puddletown Knitters Guild is having its February meeting Thursday, February 8. Doors open at 6 p.m.; the program starts at 7 p.m. "You may have noticed we're running out of space," the guild writes. "We are pleased to announce that we've found a new venue!! We'll be ready to announce at the February guild meeting. See you there!" For now, the guild meets at Multnomah Friends Meeting House, 4312 S.E. Stark St. in Portland.
