Country’s first canopy walk to be opened on February 18 in Uttara Kannada
BENGALURU: Karnataka’s tourism map is set to get another feather with the government set to inaugurate India’s first canopy walk in the Western Ghats on February 18.
Installed at a height of 30 feet above the ground in Kuveshi area, near Castle Rock of Uttara Kannada, the 240-metre walkway will provide visitors a bird’s-eye view of the verdant undulating landscape.
The Canopy walk project has been developed by Karnataka Forest Department in association with the state Tourism department.
O Palaiah, Chief Conservator of Forests, Kali Tiger Reserve said that the first of its kind project in the country will allow a maximum of 10 people for the walk at a time and two each can stand on the different platforms there to watch the life around.
“We will allow public to have an experience of the canopy walk on the inaugural day. However, regular entry of public will begin only after we sign an MOU with Jungle Lodges and Resorts or Karnataka Ecotourism Development Board (KEDB). It may take a few days,” he added.
Immensely popular in the woods of Europe, South America and South Africa, canopy walks give tourists a chance to experience the delights of nature from a higher elevation. Such trails are also much sought after by bird lovers and watchers.
