5 held after encounter in Barabanki

FAIZABAD: Police arrested five criminals in Barabanki district on Tuesday morning after an encounter in which two cops and a criminal were injured.
The crime branch got tip-off about criminals at Chilaita bridge under Jahangirabad police station in Barabanki. The criminals opened fire when police surrounded them. Police retaliated and fired about 50 rounds.
In the exchange of fire, Surendra Pasi, who has more than a dozen cases against him, was hit in both legs.Constable Narendra Singh was shot in left leg while constable Pravin Shukla was hit in the right shoulder.
ASP Barabanki Shashi Kant Tiwari said that one criminal managed to escape.
