MANGALURU: Even as
BJP national president
Amit Shah has planned visits to coastal districts of
Dakshina Kannada and
Udupi, minister for food, civil supplies and consumer affairs, U T
Khader, has appealed to him not to divide people in the region to gain political mileage.
Khader said Amit Shah’s proposed visit is a testimony to the fact that the Congress has a strong base in coastal districts.
“Amit Shah is visiting Dakshina Kannada and Udupi as he is aware that the Congress has a strong base here. We are happy that the BJP national president is visiting the coastal districts. However, I have a strong request to him not to divide people here for political gains. You can seek their votes, but don’t divide people here for that,” Khader said.
The minister said people cutting across political parties and religions live in harmony in the coastal districts. “Hindus, Muslims and Christians conduct business together and live happily here. Hence, let Amit Shah not disturb peace here,” Khader urged.
“The Congress is confident that there is a strong base for party workers here,” he added. Amit Shah will be touring Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts for three days from February 18.
