Wales’ first “dog-friendly cinema” opened its doors on Saturday night to owners and their beloved pets.

The event, which was held at Cinema and Co in Swansea , started with a quiz about famous dogs from the world of film and TV, where doggy snacks were available.

That was followed by some nutritional advice for dog owners (who were told to stay away from the popcorn).

There was then a screening of Disney’s 1993 canine adventure film Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey.

Anna Redfern, the owner of the cinema said: “At first I was apprehensive about having dogs in the cinema, but I was surprised by how well the night went. We have had lots of good feedback.

Wales’ first “dog-friendly cinema” opened its doors on Saturday night to owners and their beloved pets.

“There was some barking at the beginning but the dogs were well behaved. There was around 30 dogs at the screening.

“There were a couple of accidents but we had special cleaning products to clean everything up, the owners were mortified but it wasn’t a problem.

“A lot of the owners would take their dogs outside to ensure that accidents didn’t happen.

“This is something that I would definitely love to do again, we are thinking about doing this monthly and having a pre show meal beforehand for the owners and dogs,” she said.

Jonathan Myers went along to the screening with his Labradoodle Leia.

“It was a lovely night, everyone was cwtched up with their dogs and a blanket watching the film,” he said.

“There was a stand in the screening where you could buy drinks and snacks and there were bowls by the seats for the dogs to have a drink.

“I think Leia was more interested in eating the snacks then watching the movie. It was surprising how well behaved all the dogs were.

“There was some barking but there was no fighting, dogs of all shapes and sizes were there with their families.

“You wouldn’t be able to do this in a normal cinema, I would definitely go back again.”
