A fire has gutted the 180-year-old St Ann's Bay Methodist Church in St Ann this morning.

Reports from eye-witnesses are that the fire began about 1:30 and quickly spread to the whole building.

Two units from the St Ann's Bay Fire Brigade attempted to fight the blaze but was unable to save the historic building.

Among the many church members who gathered in shock as they viewed the ruins of the church building was Madge Braham.

She lamented the loss of the church, but more so the destruction of the 107-year-old pipe organ which was the source of music for the church over the many years.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.
