HYDERABAD: Wondering what authorities were doing when government land is being mortgaged to raise loans, the Hyderabad High Court on Tuesday directed the district collector of Mancherial to conduct a probe into the alleged action of land mafia that encroached 5,000 crore worth 2,000 acres of government land in Nennel mandal and raised loans by mortgaging these plots.
The bench of acting Chief Justice Ramesh Ranganathan and Justice K Vijayalakshmi sought a report by March 20 from the district collector.
T Rajanikanth Reddy the counsel for the petitioner said the scamsters created fictitious pattadar pass books and were raising loans from the Grameena bank in the mandal.
