KARACHI: The Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) has urged the government to provide relief in power and gas tariffs for the textile sector of the country.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, FPCCI President Ghazanfar Bilour supported the demand of the All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (Aptma) to provide uninterrupted power and gas supply at cheaper rates to compete international market.

“Closure of over 100 textile mills, if made operational, can generate billions of rupees through exporting finished products,” he said. The textile industry has 65 percent to 70 percent share in exports that can be further increased, if the government provides power and gas at cheaper rates as compared to other countries, he added. Bilour asked the government to fulfill their promise of exports package worth Rs180 billion as demanded by the Aptma.
