There are business, tourism and education opportunities in China but not jobs – Envoy

When it comes to job placement, it is Chinese first before other nationals.

The Envoy told this to newsmen in Lagos on Monday, February 19, 2018. He said it has been difficult for skilled Nigerians to get jobs let alone many unskilled youths coming to China to seek menial jobs.

Oloko, however, said only 'exceptionally skilled' Nigerians in artificial intelligence, Information Technology and others have a chance of employment in China. This is because the Chinese government has always ensured her citizens get the job first.

He said: “And the Chinese government has to first be able to provide employment for the Chinese. Besides that, there is the language barrier for Nigerians wanting to get employment in China to contend with.”

“Let me, therefore, say that there are not many employment opportunities for Nigerians or other foreigners who want to travel to any part of China to do menial jobs. Only those Nigerians who were exceptionally good in some areas yet to be explored by the Chinese that was likely to be offered employment in China.”

The 1.4 billion population of China was identified as being a major barrier to the availability of menial jobs for foreigners. Also, the country is said to be favourable for people considering studying, tourism and business purpose.

In recent time, Nigeria and China have entered into many economic and non-economic bilateral agreements. These agreements have led to a growing bilateral trade and strategic cooperation between both countries.

At present, China is considered one of Nigeria’s closest allies and partners in Asia. The total trade between both countries hits US$2.7 billion in 2017.
