PUBG fans might be getting itchy trigger fingers waiting on a new third map, but in the meantime, Bluehole has announced some new content for the game to tide them over.
Two new crates will be released TOMORROW, February 22, to celebrate the beginning of the new season!
"Check out the retro look of the items from FEVER crate inspired by the fashion of the 70s and 80s and MILITIA crate with the Erangel resistance force outfit and Miramar frontiersman outfit," explained a new blog post from the team on Steam.
The 'FEVER' crate will have "a strong feeling of spring" and can be purchased with BP and unlocked with Early Bird keys.
While the 'MILITIA' crate, which will supposedly allow players to "show off your combat outfit" will be dropped randomly among the four existing crates in the game.
Best of all though, it is free. So heed Bbluehole's advice and don’t miss out on this opportunity to get new outfits while you can.
The really fortunate ones among you could get the whole set, as Bluehole explained that, as with the Gamescom Invitational Crate, you could get the entire set along with a single item when opening the FEVER crate.
Assuming you are really lucky, mind.
The new items will be available to view on the test server later today, one day prior to the official release on Feb 22.
This follows on from slightly disappointing news that the recently announced developer roadmap has been delayed.
Instead, Bluehole will now reveal its development plans for early 2018, next month, in March.
Despite this setback, it's believed that Bluehole are already working on a new map for the game, which could be dropping as early as this Summer.
On the plus side, the developer is working on a new map, which is expected to launch this summer.
Eurogamer has reported that the reason for the delays to fresh PUBG content, is largely because the team have been focussed on banning cheaters.
According to a recent announcement, a million accounts were banned in January alone.
Speaking about these delays, Bluehole explained in a previous blog post:
"In December 2017, we announced that we were considering introducing a maximum ping limit to improve the game environment for our players.
"This update has been delayed as the team’s resources were focused on cheat blocking and prevention.
"PUBG is now introducing an experimental method that we hope will get even better results than the one we were considering before.
"Unlike the method considered earlier, we are going to divide the matching pool depending on ping.
"This means that the users with lower pings will be prioritized during matchmaking. The team is expecting to improve the overall play experience by splitting the matching pool rather than restricting connection depending on ping.
"Preparations are underway to test this method in some regions, with first trials planned to start this week. Specific dates will be shared when ready."
