Jeremy Corbyn has congratulated Stormzy for taking home his first Brit Awards and on his powerful performance at the end of the night taking aim at the British government.

The Labour Leader praised the Grime artist for mentioning the Grenfell tower tragedy in his rap, when he asked the Prime Minister: ‘Yo, Theresa May, where’s the money for Grenfell?’

The south Londoner, 24, went further by calling the government ‘criminals’ for what he sees as them neglecting the victims.

He rapped: ‘Just forgot about Grenfell, you criminals, and you got the cheek to call us savages, you should do some jail time, you should pay some damages, we should burn your house down and see if you can manage this.’

Kensington Labour also sent their well wishes to Stormzy, tweeting: ‘Congratulations Stormzy! And thank you for speaking out.’

Kensington Labour MP Emma Dent Coad wrote: ‘In Kensington we will never forget. We will never stop fighting for Justice. No justice, no peace.’

Tottenham MP David Lammy hailed the rapper for ‘speaking truth to power’.

He wrote: ‘(Stormzy) has changed the game, his story is so inspiring and his music has given a voice to a generation of young people living in our inner cities.

‘Respect and love from Tottenham.’
