CBS 12 Sources: More deputies stayed outside during shooting

PARKLAND, Fla. (CBS12) — Update:

CBS 12 sources say that at least three other Broward County Sheriff's Deputies were outside during the shooting. They stood behind their cars with guns drawn while the shooter was active say the sources. Similar claims have been made to our news partner the Sun-Sentinel and cable news network CNN.

According to CNN, some Coral Springs Police officers were stunned and upset the deputies who were first on the scene did not appear to join them.

The Broward Sheriff's Office told the Sun-Sentinel that they were investigating those claims.

Several law enforcement sources indicate there may have been a disagreement between first responders during the dramatic first minutes of last Wednesday's mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.

The sources say when Coral Springs Police officers and Broward Sheriff's deputies initially responded to the high school, there was some sort of disagreement between the two departments about entering the building and confronting the gunman.

Sources also reveal that the Coral Springs officers were first on the scene. They went inside to search for the gunman and escorted some students out of the school. This is at the point the disagreement took place. A fire captain with Coral Springs Fire Department also went to the aid of injured students without a gun or bulletproof vest.
