BENGALURU: In a bid ensure safe running of trains, 4.28km of railway track between
Tyakkal and Malur, both in
Kolar district, was thoroughly renewed (replacement of old rail with new ones) on Sunday.
The railway line between the two stations were blocked for train traffic about five hours from 10am to 3pm to carry out the renewal works. This will also help in gaining of about seven minutes of running time for all the Mail/Express between Jolarpet and
KSR Bengaluru City.
“As many as 18 old rails were removed during the renewal and moved to Tyakkal yard for reuse at suitable location. The rails were painted with anticorrosive paints,” a press note issued here read.
Welding has been carried out at 19 places including the spot where new rails were fitted. Five steel girders were launched at
Devanagundi yard in connection with
Rail Over Bridge work for elimination of the Level Crossing Gate. Tracks were packed with ballast in order to make them resilient for safe and smooth running of trains,” the release added.
A total of 350 contract labors and 12 engineers were deployed to carry out the above task of track renewal.
