900 projects to be discussed at National Scientific Research Week

DOHA: The Ministry of Education and Higher Education yesterday announced that it will organise the National Scientific Research Week and the 10th National Student Research Exhibition from March 11 to 15, 2018.

The event, which will take place at the Qatar National Convention Center (QNCC), will discuss 900 research projects presented by 1,892 students from 218 government and private schools. 

Around 411 teachers from 97 schools presented 363 research projects during the procedural research competition. 

The Ministry has set up special committees and made all necessary preparations for this year’s education conference that is aimed at providing a platform for experts, teachers and students to exchange knowledge, experiences and research, said Fawzia Al Khater, Assistant Undersecretary for Educational Affairs at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education.

Al Khater said this year research week is distinguished not only because of its achievement but also it is marking the 10th anniversary of the scientific research progress of the State of Qatar. The considerable attention given to the research by the wise leadership, and the partnership created by the ministry of education with the private of government sectors has started to bear fruits, Al Khater stressed. 

Students Research Week represents scientific platform for students, teachers and academics to discuss the latest educational developments and research outcomes and highlights research trends and encourage cooperation. 

Speaking at a press conference yesterday at the Ministry headquarters attended by Dr Abdulla Al Kamali, Special Programmes Manager, Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF), Dr Asma al Mohannadi, Head of the Scientific Research Skills team at the Ministry, and Hassan Al Mohammadi, Director of Public Relations and Media at the ministry, Al Khater explained the achievements of the programme throughout the years in the field of researches and participation in related events abroad. 

Al Khater said the event aims at developing innovative and research skills of students. In 2017, our students won prizes in Jordan, Olympaid of Physics in Thailand and bronze medal in the Middle East Exhibition for innovation in Kuwait 2018 and this year Qatari students participated for the first time in ITEX in Malaysia. The Special Programmes Manager at QNRF, Dr Abdulla Al Kamali, lauded the partnership with the Ministry of Education.

Dr Abdulla Al Kamali highlighted that the both are cooperating in diagnosing the researches using research plagiarism checker to detect the level of plagiarism, formation of scientific committees to select the best researches. 

Al Kamali pointed out that they have managed to attract 60 volunteers academics and they are going to choose six research projects to take part in the ITEX International Exhibition of Inventions and Technology in Malaysia to be held in May this year. Students whose research projects are adopted by other entities will be able to participate in its further development to become a products or change into devices Dr. Abdullah said.

For her part Dr Asma Al Mohannadi said the preparations for the event are being made in cooperation with the QNRF and all stakeholders and the event will witness a number of activities including the exhibition the 3rd Qatar National Olympic for Physics and astronomy, laboratory competition national competition for SCRATCH, the media innovative award, and the procedural research competition.
