Medical officer attacked in UP's Ballia, 3 arrested

VARANASI: The additional chief medical officer (ACMO) and in-charge of the National Health Mission (NHM) in Uttar Pradesh's Ballia district was allegedly attacked by motorcycle-borne miscreants late on Thursday evening.
The incident occurred under the Kotwali police station limits. Besides the medical officer, one more person also sustained injuries in the attack. The duo was admitted to a hospital.

Taking prompt action, the police arrested three persons including an NHM official for their alleged involvement in the assault.
According to reports, ACMO Dr Harpal Singh along with district community process manager (DCPM) Ajay Pandey was returning home from the NHM office when three persons overtook his car near old postmortem house and attacked them with bricks. They also damaged the car of the officer.
The duo tried to run away from the spot. Meanwhile, some locals came to their rescue while the attackers fled from the crime scene.
Ballia Kotwali inspector Shashi Mauli Pandey told TOI on Friday that three persons including district programme manager (DPM) Manoj Kumar, have been arrested in this connection. They have been booked under 332, 353, 520, 427 and other relevant sections of the IPC. The matter was being investigated, he said.
