Shifting of RGUHS to new campus at Ramanagara- Karnataka HC orders status quo

BENGALURU: In an interesting development, the Karnataka high court on Wednesday passed an interim order directing for maintaining status quo with regards to shifting of Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) from Bengaluru to its new campus Ramanagaram,about 50 km away from the old campus.
“The departments which have already been shifted can continue to work from Ramanagara.
But any other work related to the shifting of the university can be undertaken only with the permission of the court ”Justice Vineet Kothari has observed in his order while posting a batch of petition filed against the said shifting to June 4, 2018 for further hearing.
Padmashree Institute of Public Health and other institutions and individuals have filed these petitions.
According to them, the sole intent and objective of the authorities is make wrongful gain of the funds of the University and the whole episode of clearing a building to shift the University to Ramanagaram is an eyewash.
They have further contended that the authorities have no right or authority over the money paid by the petitioners (institutions)and students to RGUHS and the government is arm twisting the University to pay for the Rs 520 cr project.
“The tortuous aim is to force the University into paying for construction of a new building and campus, a project worth approximately Rs 520 crores and arm twisting the University into additionally building a hospital etc. with absolutely no contribution from the government, whereby the government would unscrupulously choose the builder, allot works contract, gain from a free hospital, all from the funds of RGUHS which is directly the fee paid by all the students to RGUHS” the petitioners have added while seeking a direction from the court to quash the February 8,2017 order for shifting of the campus.
