Defence Secretary Gavin Williamson branded Jeremy Corbyn a conspiracy theorist for doubting whether Russia was behind the Salisbury nerve agent attack.

The Tory Minister blasted the Labour leader, who has failed to say he holds the Kremlin responsible for the attempted assassination.

Speaking after an address to the Policy Exchange think tank, Mr Williamson said British experts had examined the evidence and pointed the finger at Moscow.

He told reporters: “The scientists we have at Porton Down are the very best in he world.

“We always like to say we have the best – we got the best.

“Their knowledge, their expertise, so clearly points to one direction and you really do have to be a conspiracy theorist of the wildest kind to believe that there is anything other than fact about the statement that Russia has done this.”

He added: “I think it is deeply disappointing, Mr Corbyn's response.

“I have got a lot of friends on the Labour benches – they're as patriotic as I am, they believe in this country as much as I do, and I think they were as disappointed as I was.

“The Prime Minister set out a response that was sensible, that was measured, that was right, that was considered.

“I just think it's time for every leader in this country to get behind her and show that unity of support.”
