Minority tag: Suo motu case registered over Kalaburagi clash

A suo motu case has been registered against the members of Veerashaiva Lingayat Swabhimani Balaga and Jagatika Lingayat Mahasabha over Monday's incident in which the members of both the groups clashed and a member of the Balaga was thrashed by Mahasabha members, at Station Bazaar Police Station on Tuesday.

As many as seven people - Ravindra Shahabadi, M S Patil Naribol, Sunil Hudgi, Shivalingappa Bandak, Veeresh Kalakovi, Bheemanagouda Paragonda and Kadappa Jamshetty - and 15 to 30 unidentified people have been named in the FIR.

The members of both associations have been charged with not taking prior permission from police for staging protests or celebrating Vijayotsava, use of abusive language, rioting, obstructing public movement, criminal intimidation and causing fear.

The police sources said that security has been beefed up across the city in the wake of Monday's incident.
