  1. Over and out

    View more on youtube

Been working so hard / I'm (we're... thank you very much) punching my card...

So that's it. Humpday is nearly over - and we're out of here.

Read on to find out why a dog may be sitting in the front row of Machine Gun Kelly's next concert, what Noel Gallagher really thinks of Damon Albarn and who will be helping the Queen celebrate her 92nd birthday at the Royal Albert Hall.

And if all else fails and your get up and go has just got up and gone, watch that Footloose video again, make like Kevin Bacon and cut loose. Bow ties, shiny loafers and lots of nylon are a must.

    See you tomorrow.

  2. The art of avoiding interviews

No one would call Beyonce press-shy, but it turns out she hasn't sat down with a journalist and given a proper one-to-one interview in three years.

Then there's the famous conductor who only gave one interview in his lifetime, and the founding member of Kraftwerk who sent a robot to press gig instead.

BBC Music's Phil Hebblethwaite looks at the music stars who 'just say no' to journalists.

  3. Latin Music festival returns to UK this summer

    Carlos Vives

    Arriba, Arriba!

The Hola! London festival is returning to the capital following the success of its inaugural year in 2017.

Dubbed "the city's biggest Latin American celebration", the festival takes over the O2 for a celebratory day of music, dancing and street food.

Carlos Vives will headline the 2018 festival on Saturday 21 July. The line-up also includes Rubén Blades with Roberto Delgado Salsa Big Band. More artists are expected to be announced in the coming months.

Tickets go on sale on Friday.

  4. Elvis Costello does Johnny Cash

    View more on youtube

Yesterday, we listened in as John Carter Cash spoke to BBC Radio 2's Chris Evans about putting the poetry and letters of his late father, Johnny Cash, to music.

The forthcoming collaborative album features 16 tracks by artists including the late Chris Cornell and Alison Krauss.

Among them is Elvis Costello. Check out his track, I'll Still Love You.

  5. Front row seat for MGK's number one fan

    Machine Gun Kelly

Not only has Machine Gun Kelly let the dogs out, he's gone and offered one a front row seat at his next concert.

When a fan on social media sent the rapper a video of her dog, apparently a number one fan, listening to his music - and howling (for the off button?) - the self-styled Young Gunner offered the pooch front row seats at his next show.

So we've had the frog chorus, next up, the dog chorus...

  6. Alexandra Burke takes on Gladys Knight classic

    BBC Radio 2

    Video content

Video caption: Alexandra covers the Gladys Knight and the Pips soul version of the '70s classic.

X Factor winner and Strictly runner-up Alexandra Burke has performed a stone-cold '70s soul classic in Radio 2's piano room.

She belted out a cover of Gladys Knight and Pips' (You're The) Best Thing That Ever Happened To Me

    Check it out above.

She also performed a cover of Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah, her debut song after winning the ITV singing competition - which quickly became the UK's top-selling single of 2008.

  7. Bromance blossoms for Noel and Damon

    Damon Albarn/Noel Gallagher

Just check out the bromance that has blossomed between Noel Gallagher and former arch Britpop rival, Damon Albarn.

“I really love working and hanging out with that mob. Not just Damon, but all his people," Noel told Q magazine.

"It turned out we had a lot of mutual friends and they’re all cool as **** (insert your preferred word here)."

Noel recorded the backing vocals for the Gorillaz track We Got The Power last year, prompting his less-forgiving brother Liam to accuse Damon of turning Noel "into a massive girl".

You can see Liam has moved with these gender-neutral times...

Now Noel has revealed that his favourite Blur song is Beetlebum and he would love work with Albarn again.

"If you’d told my younger self that he’d done one day be singing on a record by Damon Albarn, he would have laughed and probably said, ‘If either of you are still going it’ll be a miracle - a sick joke that will fascinate speccy Guardian-reading journalists for years.'”

To quote another great British writer we're sure Noel is a secret fan of: "The course of true love never did run smooth."

  8. K-pop heads to North Korea

    Red Velvet

K-pop is heading to North Korea.

More than 160 performers will take part in two concerts in Pyongyang, as part of a four-day visit at the end of this month.

K-pop group Red Velvet and Seohyun, a member of the famous K-pop group Girls' Generation, are among those reported to be crossing the border. It follows a dramatic thawing of relations between the neighbouring countries, galvanised by the recent Winter Olympics.

No sign of K-pop titan Psy joining the troupe, however. Word has it that - with eight albums under his belt - he's sick of performing his viral hit Gangnam Style.

    We know the feeling.

  9. Hinds hit the slopes in new video

    View more on youtube

You could forgive the hard-rocking Spaniards for looking uneasy, dancing around on a frozen lake - but they seem to handle it with some aplomb in the new video for their track The Club.

It's from their upcoming album, I Don't Run, which comes out on 6 April.

The video was shot in wintry Connecticut and finds the ladies hanging around a ski resort in some pretty funky retro day-glo togs.

  10. Run DMC, Groucho Marx and Julie Andrews preserved for posterity

    View more on youtube

What unites Chic's Le Freak, Run DMC, Groucho Marx and The Sound of Music?

They are all about to enter the US National Recording Registry, which preserves records of great cultural significance.

Earlier, we launched the day with Kevin Bacon, breaking out in his vest and trainers to Kenny Loggins' Footloose.

Joining that 80s classic are 25 recordings all deemed to be "culturally, historically, or aesthetically important".

They include Bill Haley's rock and roll standard Rock Around the Clock, Tony Bennett's I Left My Heart in San Francisco and The Temptations' My Girl.

The Sound of Music soundtrack and a 1972 recording of An Evening with Groucho Marx rub shoulders with Gloria Estefan's Rhythm Is Gonna Get You.

Run DMC were admitted to the registry for their 1986 album Raising Hell, which included the hits Walk This Way and My Adidas.

"For a rap artist to be put on the same level as these other great artists is truly a massive honour," Rev Run told the LA Times.

"I had to ask my manager two times if this was for real."

But perhaps the most esoteric addition comprises 200 wax cylinders, capturing members of the Sioux Yankton-Dakota tribe in 1928, giving recitations and singing tribal songs.

    What, no Ed Sheeran?

Turns out recordings must be at least 10 years old before they become eligible for the registry.

  11. Beach Boys 'played at Charles Manson's funeral'

    Charles Manson

The grandson of notorious cult leader Charles Manson chose tracks by The Beach Boys and Guns 'N Roses for Manson's funeral on Saturday, it is reported.

    We're guessing not Good Vibrations.

Manson died in November in California aged 83.

In 1969, his followers, known as the Manson Family, killed nine people, including Hollywood actress Sharon Tate, the wife of Roman Polanski.

Prior to the murders, the Manson Family had previously lived in a house owned by the Beach Boys drummer, Dennis Wilson, where the musician found himself subsidising Manson's growing entourage.

They were ultimately evicted, stealing from the drummer and trashing his car.

Approximately 25 people attended the private service in California on Saturday which was described as having "a hippie vibe" - though presumably light on the whole 'peace and love' thing.

Manson himself was a "failed rock artist"and his notoriety inspired other musicians: The singer Marilyn Manson took his surname, while the British band Kasabian are named after Linda Kasabian, the Family member who escaped prosecution by giving evidence against her former associates.

It is understood hs cremated remains were scattered on a California hillside.

The electronic veteran appeared on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert to promote his latest record, Everything Was Beautiful and Nothing Hurt.

He was accompanied by a full choir and band as he performed the gospel-influenced This Wild Darkness.

Double Brit-winner Dua, meanwhile, was over on Jimmy Kimmel's show with a performance of IDGAF.

She was given the all-clear to get back to work again this week after undergoing dental surgery on her wisdom teeth.

Her sore gnashers forced her to cancel several (musical) dates with Bruno Mars.

  14. Demi Lovato says she was suicidal as a child

    Demi Lovato

Demi Lovato has previously spoken openly about her struggles with mental health - including substance abuse, eating disorders and depression.

Now she's admitted she thought about taking her own life aged just seven years old.

"The very first time that I was suicidal was when I was seven, and I had this fascination with death," she told US TV host Dr Phil.

Quote Message: "At seven I knew if I were to take my own life that the pain would end from Demi Lovato
    Demi Lovato

She told the host her suicidal thoughts were "driven by sadness, loneliness and depression".

"If I could tell anybody that's thinking about taking their own life... don't hold it inside; don't isolate. Reach out to people... every single person on this planet is worth life."

The 25-year-old singer told Dr Phil that she feels like she's conquered her addiction to alcohol - and celebrated six years of being sober during a performance in New York last week.

But she says she still has to work on her issues with food.

"My eating disorder started when I was very young and is something I work on on a daily basis.

"It's kinda the last thing to go.

  15. Isaac Gracie shares new Last Words video

    View more on youtube

Nothing says serious artist quite like a black and white music video.

Newcomer Isaac Gracie’s gone for just that, in the new promo for Last Words.

Though we should add there is a substantial amount of larking around (and some gratuitous smoking - don't do it, kids)

It was filmed by his long-term collaborator, Jackson Ducasse, and features snapshots of the young singer's life on the road.

His debut album is released on 13 April and you can still read our first Newbie Tuesday of 2018 feature on him.

  16. Snap! Ed Sheeran's close encounter with a croc

    View more on instagram

Anyone remember the story for the Gingerbread Man and the Crocodile? It didn't end well for the Gingerbread Man.

No surprise then, that the globe's most famous ginger Ed Sheeran (with apologies to Damian Lewis) stood well back when he encountered a 9ft saltwater croc at Australia Zoo. Nothing like a bit of red meat (geddit?).

The Shape Of You singer shared a photo of him feeding the colossal snapper, apparently called Graham (no wonder he's cross).

"Ed went to our wildlife hospital and where we feed our crocodiles," a zoo spokesperson said.

"It was a pretty special experience, as the public are not allowed to feed them."

Bet Graham has been boasting about it to all his friends...

  17. Charlotte Gainsbourg: Positive reaction to new album "is still abstract"

    BBC 6 Music

The singer and actress has made her debut in the 6 Music Live room to perform tracks from her new album, Rest.

The record, which was produced by Daft Punk's Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, was released to critical acclaim in November.

It explores the deaths of Gainsbourg's father, French singer Serge Gainsbourg, and her half-sister.

Listen above to her chat with Lauren Laverne and watch her perform two live tracks from the album: Deadly Valentine and Sylvia Says, which you can watch below.
