Violence in Arwal after custodial death of an accused

A police vehicle was torched and Kaler police station in Arwal district was vandalised by a mob of villagers on Wednesday that went on rampage after custodial death of one Baban Sao (45). Police said he allegedly committed suicide inside police lock up on Wednesday morning.

PATNA: A police vehicle was torched and Kaler police station in Arwal district was vandalised by a mob of villagers on Wednesday that went on rampage after custodial death of one Baban Sao (45). Police said he allegedly committed suicide inside police lock up on Wednesday morning.
Arwal SP Dilip Kumar Mishra said that Sao was arrested on Tuesday evening from his native village Thakur Bigha village under Kaler police station and was put inside lockup.

Mishra said the accused allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself using a towel as noose after binding it with iron rod of lockup’s gate
“He was arrested on basis of a warrant issued by a court in Aurangabad. Sao was an absconder declared by court and was accused in more than one dozen cases of loot, murder and several other crime in Arwal and Aurangabad,” the SP said.
“Sao was given food on Tuesday night which he ate normally and even at around 5am on Wednesday, he even had asked one constable for drinking water,” the SP said.
He said it was around 6am that he was spotted hanging and was rushed to primary health centre in Kaler.
“Sao was referred to sadar hospital where he was declared death. The incident infuriated furious and they later attacked the police station,” Mishra said.
He said a judicial inquiry has been initiated according to National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) guidelines.
“A five member team including doctor and the judicial member was set up for post mortem. The entire process was filmed,” Mishra said adding none involved in violence were arrested yet.
