MoI honours veteran drivers

DOHA: As part of ongoing 34th Traffic Week activities, General Directorate of Traffic of the Ministry of Interior (MoI) yesterday honoured a number of veteran drivers in a ceremony held at Sharq Hotel in presence of Director General of Public Security, Staff Major General Saad bin Jassim Al Khulaifi, and high ranking officials from the MoI.

The honour is annually and aims to appreciate the veteran drivers who were role model to follow the traffic rules and to be example for young people. General Directorate of Traffic Brigadier Mohammed Saad Al Kharji called on the young drivers to follow the example of parents who have provided great examples of leadership. 

Al Kharji, in a speech delivered on his behalf by Brig. Mohammed Abdul Raheem Marafiy, Director of Traffic Engineering & Safety Department, said that adherence to traffic rules and etiquette is one of the most important pillars of traffic safety, which aims to preserve the lives and property, that is wasted by accidents. He also emphasised on the importance of concerted efforts by the official authorities in the State, as well as private entities and institutions, in order to spread traffic awareness and instill the foundations of commitment to the ethics and rules of traffic among the members of society, in order to protect all road users.

The honorees expressed their appreciation for this honoring by the Ministry of Interior represented by the General Directorate of Traffic, appreciating their keenness to honor veteran drivers every year on the sideline of Traffic Week every year. 

In a speech delivered on their behalf by Abdulaziz Abdullah Al Subaie, they said that this honour is an appreciation and pride of the role of veteran drivers. “It encourages the new generations to contribute to reducing traffic accidents, the mortality rates, and injuries.”

Al Subaie appreciated the traffic department efforts and said that the decrease in traffic accidents, and the small number of deaths and injuries resulting from them, has become remarkable during the past period, thanks to the efforts of the General Directorate of Traffic and its keenness to provide a distinct traffic system. 

At the end of the ceremony, Staff Major General Saad bin Jassim Al Khulaifi, Director General of Public Security honored the honorees and handed them certificates and souvenirs.
