Girl commits 'suicide' due to exam pressure in Bihar's Siwan district
PATNA: Exam pressure has claimed a Class X girl student's life. A 16-year-old daughter of a government teacher allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself at Anand Nagar under Town police station in Bihar's Siwan district on Thursday. Ritu Kumar failed to perform according to her expectations in Science in the ongoing matriculation examination conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).
The Science examination was held on March 16.
The CBSE matriculation examinations had started on March 5 and would end on April 4.
Police said the deceased was living with her parents and an elder sister at a rented accommodation. Her father Santosh Kumar is a government teacher while the deceased was studying in a private school in the town area. They said the girl used her scarf as noose and had tied it with a hook on the wall in the balcony of her house to hang herself.
Town police station SHO Subodh Kumar, quoting the written complaint submitted by the father of the deceased, said that the girl had told the family members that she was unable to perform according to her expectations in the Science examination.
“The girl after having dinner was studying the balcony while the other members went to sleep. It was around 1am when the girl's mother woke up and went to check her daughter that she spotted her hanging," the SHO said.
SHO Kumar said that the father had also written in the complaint that he firmly believes that Ritu committed suicide due to the tension of not performing up to the mark in the science paper about which she had regretted before her parents on several occasions.
The SHO said that the body was handed over to family members after conducting a post-mortem.
“According to the parents, she had scored good marks in past examinations and was a bright student in studies,” the SHO added.
