TOWN OF ULSTER, N.Y. >> Ulster Hose Fire Company No. 5, 830 Ulster Ave., will host a head-shaving event at 1 p.m. Sunday, March 25, to raise funds for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation and awareness of lifesaving childhood cancer research.

The event has already surpassed its fundraising goal of $5,000. Nearly 40 local volunteers will go bald to support the Foundation’s mission to take childhood back from cancer. Saugerties resident Zach Swart, a 2018 St. Baldrick’s ambassador, will be in attendance, helping to cheer on those getting their heads shaved, including his father, Tom. Swart’s mother, Nancy, will serve as emcee.

Swart was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia when he was six. When he relapsed in 2016, he received a new treatment called CAR T cell therapy from a St. Baldrick’s-funded researcher.
