The area alongside the
Panchganga ghat in
Kolhapur was cleaned on Tuesday with the help of volunteers for the Chaitra Purnima Jyotiba
Yatra
which is due on March 31. Many pilgrims from across the state come to visit the yatra on this day. The cleanliness drive was organised to ensure that the pilgrims of
Jyotiba Yatra bathed in clean and pure water in the river Panchganga. The drive was organised by Rajarshi
Shahu Bhima Vikas trust, Shahu marathon and Panchganga ghat samvardhan Samiti.
During the initiative at the ghat,
nirmalya
(waste from religious activities) and also solid waste were collected after cleaning all the areas of the dearth. The drive was supported by the
Municipal Corporation and necessary material for the cleanliness was provided. People from the nearby villages also took part for the noble cause.
