Siddaganga Mutt head Shivakumara Swami turns 111, Tumakuru in festive mood

The festivities began on Saturday with devotees taking out a procession through the main roads of the city.

TUMAKURU: Tumakuru is gearing up for the birthday of Siddaganga Mutt head Shivakumara Swami as he turns 111 on Sunday. But the festivities began on Saturday with devotees taking out a procession through the main roads of the city. Meanwhile, a ‘rath’ carrying the seer’s bust travelled across the district and will reach the mutt on Sunday.

The devotees, from ordinary people to VVIPs, have started thronging the mutt seeking his blessings. Former CM Jagadish Shettar and son of former CM Yeddyurappa Vijayendra called on the seer to take his blessings.

Over 1 lakh people are expected to turn up for ‘Guruvandana’ celebrations to be held at the mutt at 10 am. Suttur seer Shivarathri Deshikendra swami, Nirmalanandanatha swami of Adichunchanagiri Mutt and seers from various mutts are expected to take part in the celebration.
